IV. Bids and Proposals
A. Presentation and Approval of a Bid to Remove Underground Fuel Oil Tanks at the Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve
Dir. of Ops Goreth presented the bid for the removal of the underground fuel oil tanks. The Friends of the Fox River, a nonprofit organization, had expressed interest in the property and have maintained the area since 2009, they applied for a Kane County Grand Victoria Riverboat grant in 2021. Monies were allocated to assist in the removal of the oil tanks, also to repair windows on the house. Goreth noted that the company worked on a project at the Brunner Forest Preserve in the past. Funds totaling $47,500 were budgeted in FY 2021/22 for the removal of three 550-gallon underground fuel tanks project at Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve. Funds totaling $45,700 are available in the Repair Maintenance Building& Grounds for this expense totaling $56,935.83. A negative balance of $541.83 is needed to complete this project, and will be utilized from the same account. Funds totaling $10,694 of Grand Victoria Riverboat Fund Grant will be provided from the Friends of the Fox River following the conclusion of the project. Staff recommends the Committee approve the bid from TriCore Environmental, LLC of Naperville, IL in the amount of $56,935.83, and funds totaling $541.83 be utilized from the Repair/Maintenance Building/Grounds Account for the removal of three 550-gallon underground fuel tanks at Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve.
DISCUSSION: Commissioner Lenert questioned why out of the 33 vendors, there was only one bid received. Dir. Goreth explained through the feedback staff received, all companies were very busy. Chair Wojnicki asked if the tanks had been drained when the property was purchased. Dir. Goreth responded that yes, they were capped and drained, it is essential to remove the tanks to be environmentally sound.

VII. Communications
A. 2022 Maple Sugaring Event Video
Dir. of Community Affairs Metanchuk presented a short video of the 2022 Maple Sugaring event at the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve held on March 5th and 6th, 2022. Metanchuk commented, this year was the highest volume of participants, they sold out of the maple syrup offered for purchase, estimated about 1,200 people. Brief comments were made by the Commission.
Exec. Dr. Meyers promoted the Conservation Foundation Earth Day Benefit. The District sponsors the event every year and receive a number of tickets for Commissioners and Directors to attend. Meyers thanked Chief of Planning Ken Anderson Jr., who is retiring for all of his dedication to the District and years of service. A reception will be held March 30 at 2:00 p.m.
VIII. Chairman's Comments
Chair Wojnicki thanked Ken Anderson Jr., for his 30 years of service to Kane County and the Forest Preserve, also, for being an active member in the community and Village of Elburn.
