City of Aurora Advisory Commission on Disabilities met March 14.

CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Janine McDonough called the meeting to order at 6:02 pm
ROLL CALL:
Present - Janine McDonough, Sean Williams, Elana Newkirk, Wanda Malone via Zoom and Sandra Harrison via phone call-in.
Others Present: Katrina Boatright
OTHERS IN ATTENDANCE: To have a physical quorum a vote was taken to approve that Wanda Malone attend the meeting via Zoom and for Sandra Harrison to attend the meeting by phone call-in.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Sean Williams advised of a typo to his last name in the minutes - William to Williams. After the adjustment, Sean Williams made a motion to approve the minutes. Elana Newkirk seconded. Minutes were approved.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
NONE
MISSION and GOALS WORDING: Commission members discussed the new updates that were made to the Mission Goals Statement. Wanda Malone made a motion to approve the new changes. Sean Williams seconded. New Mission and Goals Statement was approved.
RESOURCE FAIR: Sean Williams is looking to establish a location and date for the fair. Waubonsee and the month of October is being considered. Possibly hosting it on a Thursday, late afternoon or early evening. Katrina Boatright will look into it further for tentative dates and times to choose from.
RECRUITING OF BOARD COMMISSIONERS: Chairperson Janine McDonough reported that nine applications were submitted. The Commission members discussed a recommendation to have potential candidates be presented with two meeting dates to choose from to attend. Provide them with a list of our accomplishments and the Mission Goals Statement. Wanda Malone suggested the invites to include some form of job description.
LISTENING TOUR: Katrina Boatright shared that the Disability Listening Tour will be modeled after the Seniors Listening Tour. Will consist of four listening sessions. Two in person and two virtual via Zoom. One in person will be at the Eola Center and the other at the Prisco Center. People on the panel would include partners that can provide specific services and resources. focus of the Listening Tour is to give the attendees an opportunity to express what is working, what needs to improve and also a way to connect with community resources. To bring unification of all the partners.
CITY REPORT: Katrina Boatright shared information - Mayor's office is looking into providing a Sign Language Interpreter to be available at future City Council meetings for the Deaf Community. City's Sports Fest and Youth Services to include those with disabilities.
OTHER BUSINESS: Bylaws and forming of sub-committees has been tabled for further discussion at a future meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Sandra Harrison shared information - The African Heritage Coalition is hosting a Health Fair at the Prisco Center on April 11, 2022.
ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Elana Newkirk. Sean Williams seconded. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned at 6:49 pm.
