State Rep. Jeff Keicher explained the benefit of a data center tax credit to help rebuild the Illinois economy.
Keicher stated that this was part of the Illinois economic plan in 2019.
“I was proud to be part of a critical economic reform, signed into law as part of the package that House Republicans specifically negotiated in 2019, and it provides the state's first incentives for data centers where the creation of jobs and investment of $250 million in new projects are the starting point,” he explained.
According to Keicher, to qualify for the data center tax incentive, a data center must invest $250 million in the facility and hire a minimum of 20 full-time employees over five years. He also recalled that this was an effort that has been supported by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
“I also want to give kudos to our governor on that agreement,” Keicher continued. “Had it not been for House Republicans like Jim Durkin and Tom Demmer bringing the idea forward and the first-term governor who agreed with us that he wanted to see a growing Illinois economy, it would not have happened.”
He is hoping that data centers can bring back investment, state revenue, and jobs.
“The data center will allow local areas to rescue their own future by bringing in added revenue, added jobs, added residents. We cannot afford to see the state take that away.”
Keicher strongly urged focusing on jobs and relieving property taxes.
