Actuarial funding percentage for the police and firefighter pensions in South Elgin in 2018 was 63.2 percent, according to the Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI).

The pensions combined assets equal $31.8 million in 2018, while the liabilities equaled $50.2 million. The pensions have 63 members and 24 beneficiaries.

The funding percentage of pensions in South Elgin is higher than the average funding percentage for the state of Illinois.

According to the American Academy of Actuaries, a funding percentage is a “point-in-time” measurement and not necessarily indicative of long-term health.

However, a 100 percent funding level is recommended by the Government Finance Officers Association.
