Nearly 23,000 pounds of food were collected during Christ Community Church's food drive to benefit the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry.
The food pantry, which serves the city of Aurora and several surrounding counties, has seen a surge in the number of families it serves each week since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The client list has grown from 2,000 to 8,000 people served per week.
“Honestly, we didn’t know what to expect with the drive, but people really responded in a huge way,” Kris Eldridge, community impact pastor at Christ Community Church, told the Daily Chronicle.
Christ Community Church held this food drive with no contact, setting up drop off points at four different locations. Donations were received at the Church Community Church campuses in DeKalb, St. Charles and Streamwood. Donations were also accepted directly at the food pantry.
In an effort to continue serving, Christ Community Church will host a blood drive from 1-7 p.m. June 2 at its campuses in St. Charles, Aurora, DeKalb and Streamwood. To learn of more ways to serve, visit their website.
