Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, developers for two high profile Aurora projects said they should finish as scheduled.
Construction is considered an essential business, but there have been setbacks on the former Copley Hospital campus and the development of the former West Aurora School District administration, according to the Chicago Tribune. And developers for the projects have taken safety precautions as well.
“In this industry, there already are protocols for job site safety,” said Patrick Skarr, a spokesman for the developers for both projects, told the Chicago Tribune. He said that made it easier to shift protocols for workers.
One change is taking workers' temperatures before and after work, Russ Woerman, a partner and construction supervisor, told the newspaper.
“We tell them, if you’re not feeling it, don’t come in,” Woerman said. “Nobody’s been sick.”
The coronavirus has presented limitations, but people are sill showing interest for the apartments being developed and several leases have been signed, Woerman told the Chicago Tribune.
Showing the new apartments is difficult with social distancing rules, but Woerman said they are using masks.
“But there is still a very strong interest in the residential (developments),” Skarr said.
