City of Geneva Cultural Arts Commission met Dec. 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

Commission Members Present: Amy Cook, Kent Gallagher, Kevin Heckman, Doug Holzrichter, Jan Schmuckal, Dana Teichart, Tim Vetang

Commission Members Absent: Chazmin Baechler, Alexia Monaco

Also in Attendance: Cate Tracy, City of Geneva

1. Call to Order: Chairman Vetang called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm.

2. Amendments to Agenda: Agenda stood as presented.

3. Approve Minutes – October, 2019

Heckman moved to approve the October minutes, seconded by Schmuckal, approved unanimously. November 7 minutes will be approved at the next meeting.

Review Financial Reports - Holzrichter

Fund Equity Balance $45,981.90, an increase of $3,651.31, due to Steeple Walk revenues. Financial Reports were accepted as presented.

Update on Future Fringe Fest – David Rice

This would include small venues of artists to do something where they don’t usually have people looking at their art, perhaps in a café, which include literature, music performance art, body/min/soul piece, sword battles, etc. There would be five venues and social media will build a website to promote these events. The tentative date is Saturday, May 2, from 11am-5pm.

Library Bicycle Rack – Christine Lazaris

The proposed new library location for a sculptured bike rack would be on the southwest corner of 6th Street and Campbell Streets outside of the library entrance. The cost of the rack would be about $1,000 per bicycle and Christine is looking for sponsors. It was moved by Teichart and seconded by Schmuckal that the GCAC will undertake the installation of a bicycle rack on a designated site, either owned by the GPL or on the public right of way at 6th and Campbell Streets. Motion passed unanimously.

Greater Geneva Art Guild - Vetang

Schmuckal moved and Gallagher seconded to separate GCAC from the Art Guild and requests that the City forward Art Guild funds per Mr. Vetang’s letter sent to the Geneva Foundation for the Arts, a 501(c)(3) organization. Motion passed unanimously.

8. Street Performer Series Concept – Tracy

Feedback received from businesses was positive and the businesses thought it was a great idea.

9. REPORTS

a. Arts Foundation Update - Holzrichter

The development of a fundraising plan and establishing goals for the Arts Center is progressing. Holzrichter also presented the 2020 Annual Calendar & Tasks information, as well as the financial report showing assets of $95,459.40.

b. Steeple Walk - Gallagher

Steeple Walk is sold out with 260 tickets.

c. Shakespeare in the Park – No report.

d. Summer Series – No report.

e. Geneva Fine Art Fair Booth – GCAC is set to participate in 2020.

f. Orion Ensemble – No Report

g. Mural Project – Vetang No report

h. Sculptured Bicycle Rack – Schmuckal

Artists are welcome to submit plans for new bike racks.

i. Gimme Shelter Bus Stop Art - Schmuckal

City staff filed an insurance claim with Geico concerning the incident that destroyed a bus stop art installation. Tracy will keep the Commission updated on the claim status.

j. Art on Fire – No Report.

k. Commissioner Comments and Events

A concerned citizen asked Vetang why the trees on 3rd Street weren’t lit up for the holiday season.

10. Public Comments – There were none.

11. Adjourn - Motion to adjourn was made by Holzrichter and seconded by Schmuckal. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
