City

City of Geneva Cultural Arts Commission met June 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

Commission Members Present: Chazmin Baechler, Kent Gallagher, Carolyn Hill, Doug Holzrichter, Deanna Matyskiel, Alexia Monaco, Jan Schmuckal, Tim Vetang

Absent: Dana Teichert

Also in Attendance: Cate Tracy — City of Geneva; Lisa Hellman

1. Call to Order: Chairman Vetang called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm.

2. Introduce New Staff Liaison: Cate Tracy from the City of Geneva will be the new staff liaison for the Arts Commission.

Additionally, Deanna Matyskiel announced that she will resign from the Arts Commission, effective upon her her submitting an official Letter of Resignation to the Mayor.

3. Amendments to Agenda: Agenda to stand as presented.

4. Approve Minutes —April 2019

a. One amendment to change the staff liaison from Jennifer Becker to Cathleen Tymoszenko.

b. Monaco moved, Schmuckal seconded to approve minutes. Motion carried.

5. Review Financial Reports—Doug Holzrichter

a. Reviewed report for the Fiscal Year that ended April 30th, 2019

b. Revenue was $21,981.18, 48% of projections for the year. The difference was due in part to loss of revenue from the Geneva Film Festival.

c. Monaco noted that the Project Income Statement for the Year-to-Date was dated incorrectly. The revised version will be resent via email.

6. Style Guide Update— Deanna Matyskiel

a. Matyskiel will upload all relevant GCAC art files to the Commission’s Dropbox account.

7. Street Performer Concept—Tim Vetang

a. Vetang shared information regarding a Street Performer program in Holland, MI

b. The group discussed hosting a similar program in Geneva, including possible days/times, permit requirements, and locations.

c. The idea will be discussed further at the July meeting

8. Reports

a. Steeple Walk— Kent Gallagher

i. Discussion was held regarding adding additional venues to the program. It was decided that it may interfere with the format and pacing of the event.

ii. One group is already booked for the 2019 event

b. Summer Series— Carolyn Hill and Lisa Hellman

i. Discussion was held about the remaining logistics for the Summer Series concerts, on July 7, 14, 21, and 28.

c. Geneva Foundation for the Arts — Doug Holzrichter

i. New board member Tim Nelson was elected

ii. Website was updated to better reflect the mission statement of the Foundation

d. Gimme Shelter Bus Stop art — Jan Schmuckal

i. Schmuckal received 37 submissions

ii. Submissions will be disseminated and voted upon

iii. The top two submissions will be used for the next two bus stops on the south Randall Road corridor

e. Shakespeare in the Park — Tim Vetang

i. Discussion was held regarding final details for the performance of “Twelfth Night,” by the Stone Soup Shakespeare troupe, on Saturday, July 6th.

f. Fox Valley Arts Ramble — Tim Vetang

i. The event will be moving to June for 2020

ii. Local stakeholder groups were invited to a planning meeting on June 13th at Water Street Studio in Batavia

g. Mural Project—Tim Vetang

i. No report

h. Bike Rack —Jan Schmuckal

i. The artist selected for the commission is no long available due to a scheduling conflict

ii. Artist Chris Leslie of Metal Heart Forge will replace him

iii. Location will be at the intersection of State Street and Route 31

iv. Total budget is $5,500, comprised of $3,000 funds from the annual budget and $2,500 in sponsorship.

i. Commissioner Comments & Events

i. Chairman Vetang shared that librarian Kylie Peters of the Geneva Public Library is looking for an arts-related project to do with a middle school group. Possible options discussed include fire hydrants in the Art on Fire program and a mural.

10. Adjourn—Motion to adjourn was made by Schmuckal and seconded by Gallagher. Meeting was adjourned at 9:10 pm.
