6. PROJECT IDEAS

Creating a youth council email or a form is an idea so the council can keep in contact with the community and engage with their needs, along with see all of the events people want reviewed and added to the calendar.

This year was a building year for the youth council. We had a lot of ideas, but we tried to take on too much. Next year, we’d like to have a few certain activities laid out monthly for sure, and if there is space, add more later. Council members mentioned wanted projects for Earth Day, Aurora Strong, and a book drive to be part of the agenda. There was also a suggestion of the creation of merchandise to get the Aurora Youth Council name out there, along with engaging more with the public-marching in parades like Pride and Fourth of July, etc.

After the initiation of new council members, before the August meeting, the council would like to have a small meeting dedicated to welcoming the new members, setting expectations, and talking about the roles they have the opportunity to run for. This way, the council can have a successful year. There was also an idea of wanting tradition, as the council is only on its second year. This summer in July or August there will be a celebration for the graduates, but we would also like to have a lunch each year for the alumni of the council, as a way to network and build community.

7. COMMITTEE REPORT

The Youth Council calendar committee recently met, and have begun working on the creation of the calendar. The site Teamup will be used, and the secretary of the youth council will have the most access, while the rest of the council will have access to some degree as well. We will allow trusted organizations to add events that we have vetted (for example, Wheatland sports cannot add soccer and basketball dates if we have only vetted soccer). Children and teens are the targets as of now, and the council is looking to add events under the categories of community (events/food), Activities (clubs, sports, classes), and Miscellaneous. The committee is going to meet again to begin targeting organizations and reaching out to them, along with finding a good way to get the calendar link out to the public.

The science fair committee and the youth summit committee have both been moved to the Fall of 2019 as of right now.

8. ANNOUNCEMENTS

There are no new announcements.

9. ADJOURN

Ella motioned to adjourn, Safa seconded.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:27 p.m.
