CITY OF ST. CHARLES: Lightning Safety Awareness Week

Lightning

City of St. Charles issued the following announcement on June 29.

It’s Lightning Safety Awareness Week. And as if on cue, we've had some pretty big storms this week which have produced some spectacular flashes of lightning. Lightning can reach temperatures around 50,000°F--that’s hotter than the surface of the sun. Lightning kills an average of 47 people a year in the United States.
