Former state university employee Langerveld paid in $17K to pension fund, could collect $176K in retirement

Former state university employee Julie Langerveld, who retired in September 2017, saved $16,919 toward a pension over 6 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Langerveld would collect as much as $176,010, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Kane County Reporter.

The projection assumes Langerveld received $3,699 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Langerveld will have already received $19,638 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
