Former state university employee Bota paid in $43K to pension fund, could collect $627K in retirement

Former state university employee Aurel Bota, who retired in August 2017, saved $42,619 toward a pension over 7 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Bota would collect as much as $627,024, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Kane County Reporter.

The projection assumes Bota received $13,179 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Bota will have already received $55,134 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
