Former state university employee Allman paid in $4K to pension fund, could collect $73K in retirement

Former state university employee John Allman, who retired in January 2016, saved $4,037 toward a pension over 10 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Allman would collect as much as $73,327, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Kane County Reporter.

The projection assumes Allman received $1,541 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Allman will have already received $4,763 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
