Former state university employee Olson paid in $224K to pension fund, could collect $5.15M in retirement

Former state university employee Paul Olson, who retired in August 2017, saved $224,257 toward a pension over 21 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Olson would collect as much as $5.15 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Kane County Reporter.

The projection assumes Olson received $108,338 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Olson will have already received $334,862 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
