Former state university employee Baker paid in $11K to pension fund, could collect $222K in retirement

Former state university employee William Baker, who retired in January 2016, saved $11,152 toward a pension over 16 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Baker would collect as much as $222,139, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Kane County Reporter.

The projection assumes Baker received $4,669 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Baker will have already received $14,431 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
