In passing his first bill out of the Human Services Committee since heading to Springfield, newly elected Republican state Rep. Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) has zeroed in on one of his biggest priorities.
Ugaste led the charge in the advancement of House Bill 3274, which mandates that the Department on Aging, Department of Human Services and the Department of Health Care and Family Services all identify the programs they have available across the state to aid seniors. In compliance with the new legislation, the Department of Aging would have the responsibility of compiling and maintaining a list of the programs, along with highlighting eligibility requirements and details about how to apply for them, on its website.
“Previously, each state agency had these resources listed on their own website,” Ugaste said in a press release. “This bill simplifies the process to make all the information seniors may need to access easier to find, navigate and utilize. It will help make things easier on our seniors and more efficient for all residents looking for these types of resources.”

After passing the Human Services Committee with unanimous support, HB 3274 will now move forward in the House for further consideration.
