Dan Ugaste: Property tax reform is a priority.
When voters go to the polls Tuesday, Dan Ugaste hopes they consider first and foremost which candidates will do the best job of representing the voters of Illinois.
“I want them to only be thinking of which candidates have put forth the best solutions for rescuing Illinois,” Ugaste told Kane County Reporter. “I don’t want this election to be based on the personalities of the candidates, but rather who stands to do the best job of returning this state back to the land of stability.”
Running against Democrat Richard Johnson for a House seat in the 65th District, Ugaste, a Republican, said the differences between him and his rival couldn’t be more stark.
Illinois State House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chiacago).
“My campaign has been about getting our budget in order and this state out of debt,” Ugaste said. “My opponent has shielded himself from taking a stance on anything. One thing we do know is that he will be beholden to [House Speaker] Mike Madigan based on all the campaign money [Madigan] has thrown behind his candidacy.”
Ugaste said Madigan’s history of imposing more taxes on already overburdened residents is the last thing Illinois needs right now.
“More taxes will completely damage this state and run even more people away,” he said. “My opponent would be joining Madigan in taking that approach, while I will be completely independent and mindful of how we’re using the tax dollars we’re already taking in.”
With more people disenchanted than ever about the direction of the state, Ugaste said he is urging voters to come out in record numbers to make their voices heard and leave no doubt about the changes they want to see in government.
“Everyone knows Madigan has to go and having him continue in power will only result in more of the same,” he said. “We’ve lived [with Madigan in leadership] for the last 30 years or so. It’s time for the new and improved leadership Republicans are offering.”
The 65th House District includes Batavia, Burlington, Dundee, Elgin, Geneva, Grafton, Hampshire, Plato, Rutland and St. Charles.
