St Charles FD responds to 104 fires in 2017

St Charles Fire Department responded to 787 calls in 2017 - 5.7 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in St Charles included 104 fires - 67 structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 28 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,306,920 in fire loss - or about $12,567 per fire.

The department also received 679 false calls, including five malicious calls and 674 other false calls.

The calls resulted in seven civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The St. Charles Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 45 active employees and 24 retired or inactive employees, was $2,137,080 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $23,229 for every fire in 2016.
