City of Geneva Cultural Arts Commission met March 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

Commission Members Present: Chazmin Baechler, Carolyn Hill, Doug Holzrichter, Alexia Monaco, Jan Schmuckal, Tim Vetang

Absent: Kent Gallagher, Deanna Matyskiel, Dana Teichert

Also in Attendance: Cathleen Tymoszenko — City of Geneva; Nicole Yingst

1. Call to Order: Chairman Vetang called the meeting to order at 7:05pm.

2. Amendments to Agenda: No amendments proposed.

3. Approve Minutes — January 2018

a. Hill moved, Monaco seconded to approve minutes as presented. Motion carried.

4. Review Financial Reports—Doug

a. Reviewed budgets from January and February 2018.

b. Current balance is $56,893.13.

c. Next major revenue event is Geneva Film Festival.

d. Question from public regarding a balance transfer from City account.

e. Reports accepted as presented.

5. Budget Update— Cathleen

a. Budget will be presented to the Committee of the Whole for approval.

6. Style Guide—Deanna

a. Presentation of Style Guide moved to April 2018 meeting due to Matyskiel’s absence.

7. Reports

a. Statement of Cooperation with Geneva Foundation for the Arts

i. Hill moved, Schmuckal seconded to approve Statement of Cooperation as presented. Motion carried.

ii. Chairman Vetang to sign and return to Cathleen Tymoszenko

b. Film Fest March 8-10, 2018—Cathleen

i. Discussion of sponsorships.

ii. Discussion of logistics: lodging, access to petty cash, “Green Room” location

c. Summer Music—Caroline

i. Summer Series 2018 schedule was discussed.

ii. Discussion of logistics: tent and other equipment rental; back-up location in event

of inclement weather is Methodist Church.

iii. Discussion of sponsorships: Miscella Realty to sponsor Miscella’s Sweet Melodies.

iv. Promotional flyer will need to be designed.

v. Weekend of 7/29 GCAC will also have a booth at the Geneva Art Fair.

d. Foundation Update— Tim

i. GFA retained a marketing firm to create a series of promotional videos. Videos were presented and discussed.

e. Art Guild— Cathleen/Tim

i. Preparing for Fox Valley Arts Ramble on April 21st.

ii. The Art Guild will host artists at the American Legion.

f. Mural Proposal —Tim

i. Proposal being developed by artist and will be presented at a later date

g. Commissioner Comments & Events

i. Schmuckal presented the artist being considered for the next Bike Rack project, Eric Fuertes. His proposal is forthcoming and will be reviewed by the Public Art Advisory Committee.

ii. Bus Stop Art—Schmuckal made request to Nicole Yingst to have art students from Geneva Middle School create submissions for the next Bus Stop installation.

8. Public Comments

a. Nicole Yingst asked a question regarding proposed location of a Cultural Arts Center.

Holzrichter advised that a location has not yet been determined.

9. Adjourn—Motion to adjourn was made by Holzrichter and seconded by Monaco.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:43 pm.
