Geneva FD responds to 96 fires in 2016

Geneva Fire Department responded to 470 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Kane County Reporter.

The calls in Geneva included 96 fires - 67 structure fires, 10 vehicle fires and 17 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $571,660 in fire loss - or about $5,955 per fire.

The department also received 374 false calls, including six malicious calls and 368 other false calls.

Two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and two were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Geneva Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 20 active employees and nine retired or inactive employees, was $789,447 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $8,223 for every fire in 2016.
