The City of St. Charles is reviewing possible locations to build a new police headquarters that it hopes to have completed within two-and-a-half years, the city reported recently.
The city estimates it will cost $21.5 million to build the modern facility. The decision to replace rather than upgrade its current police department came after a 2015 review by police and public works personnel determined that a new headquarters was the best long-term solution to problem plaguing the current facility.
The new site must be along a main route and meet all city codes. It is expected to accommodate the police department for the next 50 years.
Funding for the project will come from city funds and a 20-year bond issue.
