Geneva residents who haven’t yet caught a glimpse of the city’s artfully decorated fire hydrants can take a virtual tour to see the results of the City Council’s “Art on Fire” 2016 hydrant design competition.
Or, they can visit the real-life winning waterworks equipment at three different sites along city streets as a result of the city’s collaboration with the Cultural Arts Commission to recruit artists willing to “adopt” and paint fire hydrants AT various Geneva spots.
This year’s winners were recognized at a ceremony during an Oct. 10 Committee of the Whole meeting, at 22 S. First St.
For a quick peek, residents can visit all painted hydrants by clicking the “Geneva Attractions” link under the “Explore Geneva” tab at http://www.geneva.il.us/index.aspx. Geneva community members who would like to watch the ceremony itself can click on this link: Watch The "Art On Fire" Recognition
Kassidy Keenehan won first place for her “Thomas the Train” hydrant located in front of Duke and Lees Service, 609 S. Third St.. Tom Sheridan’s “Go Cubs” hydrant at 940 Lewis Pl. scored second place, while Julian Hipp’s “Sunny Day” at Western Avenue School earned third place honors.
