Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 68.9 percent of West Aurora High School's (WAHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.
The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.
For WAHS, its college-enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 65.5 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.
Among other high schools in Kane County, the Class of 2015 college-enrollment rates at Harry D. Jacobs High School (62.6 percent), Bartlett High School (54.3 percent), Kaneland Senior High School (53.4 percent), South Elgin High School (50.6 percent), Duquoin High School (47.1 percent), East High School (19.4 percent), Elgin High School (25.0 percent), Streamwood were all lower than that of WAHS.
The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.
Enrollment at WAHS in 2015 was 3,798; 894 (23.54 percent) were seniors.
ISBE said 30.6 percent of WAHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.
All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."
WAHS students did better in reading (27.7 percent) and English (51.0 percent), and worse in science (22.5) and math (25.3).
Only 14.0 percent of WAHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
