Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 71.4 percent of Duquoin High School's (DHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.
The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.
For DHS, its college-enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 62.8 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.
Among other high schools in Kane County, the Class of 2015 college-enrollment rates at Batavia Senior High School (73.4 percent) and St. Charles North High School (71.8 percent) were higher than that of DHS. Rates at Harry D. Jacobs High School (62.6 percent), Kaneland Senior High School (53.4 percent), South Elgin High School (50.6 percent), Larkin High School (22.9 percent), Elgin High School (25.0 percent), Streamwood High School (29.9 percent) and Hampshire High School (52.6 percent) were all lower.
The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.
Enrollment at DHS in 2015 was 402; 91 (22.64 percent) were seniors.
ISBE said 47.1 percent of DHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.
All students who score a 21 or higher on the ACT qualify as "college ready."
DHS students did better in reading (40.2 percent) and English (60.9 percent), and worse in math (31.0) and science (33.3).
Only 17.2 percent of DHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
