Illinois State Representative Dan Ugaste has voiced opposition to ongoing discussions about legislative map redistricting in the state. Ugaste, a Republican who was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the 65th District after replacing Steven Andersson, joined other House Republicans in criticizing what they describe as partisan efforts by Democrats.

Democratic leaders are reportedly considering changes to existing district maps, which Ugaste and his colleagues argue are already among the most gerrymandered in the nation. Congressional Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries met with Democratic officials regarding this issue earlier this week.

Ugaste stated, "The hypocrisy is outrageous. This is all about protecting power, not voters’ rights. We need to end extreme partisan gerrymandering and allow our voters’ voices to be heard."
