State Senator Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles) is inviting families from the 33rd Senate District to participate in a Veterans Day display at the Illinois Capitol Rotunda. The event, titled “Honoring All Who Served,” will feature photos and personal stories of Illinois veterans from October 28 through November 13.

“The ‘Honoring All Who Served’ display is a powerful tribute to the brave men and women who defended our country and everything it stands for,” said DeWitte. “Through family participation, they ensure their loved one’s service and sacrifice is seen, remembered, and appreciated by everyone who visits the State Capitol. This project ensures their legacies endure.”

Families are asked to submit a photo and a brief story of up to 250 words about their veteran, including details such as name, military branch, and conflict served. Military photos are encouraged but not required.

Submissions can be sent by email to veteransday@sgop.ilga.gov by November 8, 2024 or mailed to Veterans Day Wall, 110 D Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706. For more information, people may call (217) 782-1154.

“Every story in the display honors true American heroes,” DeWitte added. “It also serves as an important reminder of the value of service to one’s country.”

DeWitte has represented Illinois' 33rd Senate District since his election in 2018 after succeeding Karen McConnaughay. More information about his background can be found at https://www.ilga.gov/senate/Senator.asp?GA=103&MemberID=3166.
