State Representative Dan Ugaste from Geneva has called on Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. In a statement, Rep. Ugaste emphasized the need for local officials to allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to perform their duties in deporting undocumented immigrants with criminal records.

Rep. Ugaste stated, “I urge Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson to let federal officials and Immigrations and Custom Enforcement (ICE) do their jobs in cleaning up our neighborhoods and making our communities safer.” He advocated for the repeal of the TRUST Act, which limits local law enforcement's cooperation with ICE.

He further expressed concerns about public safety, saying, “The safety of our residents is paramount, and allowing federal officials to remove criminals from jails instead of neighborhoods would make much more sense and could possibly save lives." Rep. Ugaste stressed that public safety should not be a partisan issue and urged Democrats to support federal efforts in removing undocumented individuals with criminal backgrounds.
