These rules closely resemble those previously implemented by former House Speaker Michael Madigan. Madigan is currently facing charges of racketeering, bribery, and corruption.
According to a statement from the Caucus Blog of the Illinois House Republicans, "Madigan’s House Rules renewed for two more years." The rules have been criticized for limiting the influence of over 4 million Illinois residents represented by Republicans across the state.
