City of Geneva Board of Police and Fire Commission met July 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

1. Call to Order

Chair McMahon called the meeting to order at 6:00pm.

PRESENT: Chair Jennifer McMahon, Commissioner Ernie Belmonte, Commissioner Todd Augustine.

ALSO PRESENT: Fire Chief Michael Antenore, Ben McCready - Assistant City Administrator, Nick Partipilo - Administrative Analyst and Roger Wilhelmi – Citizen of the City of Geneva

ABSENT: NONE

2. Items of Business

a. Approval of the meeting minutes from the May 9th, 2023 meeting. Commissioner Augustine made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Belmonte and unanimously approved by all present.

b. Public Commentary: None

3. Unfinished Business None

4. New Business

a. Approve Conditional Offer of Employment. None currently.

b. Police Officer Recruitment. Testing date set for next police officer exam is July 16th, 2023. 17 total applicants with 14 qualified. Additionally, the idea of changing the requirement of having the Power Card prior to testing was discussed. The thought being we might get more applicants if we changed to the Power Card being required at time of hire. Chair McMahon noted she would support whatever Police Chief Passerelli would like to do regarding the Power Card. No decision was made, and the topic was tabled for future conversation.

c. Battalion Chief Eligibility Roster Update. Request by Chief Antenore to discuss during Executive Session.

d. Lieutenant Eligibility Roster – Draft Schedule. Chief Antenore advised the Board that the roster for Fire Lieutenants has been exhausted and provided a tentative plan and schedule for the new list.

e. Firefighter Eligibility Register – Draft Schedule. Chief Antenore advised the Board that the roster for Firefighter has been exhausted and provided a tentative plan and schedule for the new list. This included his request to work with both the cities of St. Charles and Batavia on a joint Firefighter Testing Date. The thought being that working together may make our test more attractive to applicants as they would be testing for 3 potential positions at one time.

f. Commissioner Belmonte motioned to approve directing Chief Antenore to move forward with the planning to schedule joint Firefighter testing. Seconded by Commissioner Augustine and unanimously approved by all present.

5. Future Meeting – August 16th, 2023

6. Executive Session

a. Motion to enter Executive Session was made by Commissioner Augustine at 6:35pm, seconded by commissioner Belmonte and unanimously approved by all present.

b. Motion to exit Executive was made by Commissioner Augustine at 6:45pm, seconded by commissioner Belmonte and unanimously approved by all present.

7. Adjournment

Commissioner Augustine moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:50pm, seconded by Commissioner Belmonte and unanimously approved by all present.
