Washington, DC – On May 17, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) introduced the Expanding Opportunities for Recovery Act, which would allow states to be awarded grants through the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment in order to expand prevention efforts and evidence-based treatments, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
“The rising number of opioid addictions and overdoses in Illinois and across the nation is devastating our families and our communities,” said Foster. “Countless community groups, municipalities, and law enforcement officials are working to combat substance use disorder at the local level, but we must do more to support them. That's why I'm reintroducing this legislation to increase prevention efforts and expand evidence-based resources."
