The Aurora University women's track team opened the 2023 indoor season at the Windy City Invitational hosted by Chicago State. The Spartans were competing with a partial squad before adding fall sport athletes to the roster for the remainder of the indoor season.
Lauren Bliefernicht got the meet started by running the 5th fastest 60m dash in school history. Her time of 8.13s is the fastest any Spartan woman has run since the 2019 indoor season.
AU had a strong showing in the women's throws, with a total of four top 10 finishes - Silja Erickson (6th) and Kelsey Deck (10th) in weight throw and Erickson (6th) and freshman Paige Chapin (9th) in Shot Put.
The 4x400m relay of Hannah Cure, Rebekah Hannah, Maria Esquivel, and Bliefernicht placed 5th with a time of 4:24.79.
Other notable performances included Skylar Gibbs placing 6th in the 60mh, and a trio of top 10 performances in High Jump from Hannah (9th), Alayna Koehler, and Keyara Bailey (tie for 10th).
The Spartans will resume their indoor season January 21 at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater for the Karl Schlender Open.
