Aurora University's Justin Wyeth has been named the NCAA Division III 2022 Region 6 Coach of the Year presented by Golf Pride Grips, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
The Region Coach of the Year honor is the first for Wyeth in his career as the Head Coach of the AU men's and women's golf programs. Earlier this season he was selected as the 2021-2022 NACC Men's and Women's Golf Coach of the Year, his fifth consecutive time earning the men's honor and now has 11 total NACC Coach of the Year titles to his resume as he is a six time NACC Women's Golf Coach of the Year.
The 2021-2022 Spartan men's golf program continued to climb the ranks in the Division III spectrum as the Spartans finished the season ranked No. 14 in the Bushnell/GolfWeek Coaches Poll. AU won seven tournaments on the season including the 2021-2022 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship for a fifth consecutive season.
Wyeth led a talented group of Spartans including the programs first All-American in Scott Boyajian. Boyajian was selected to the Third-Team All-American Team by PING following his performance at the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships in which he finished tied for sixth with a four-over 291 with rounds of 75, 69, 74, 73.
Freshman Braeden Duncan was selected to the 2022 Division III All-Freshman Team after being named the Region 6 Freshman of the Year. Additionally, Duncan, Boyajian and senior Jack Vercautren were selected as members of the 2022 Golf Coaches Association of America / Ping Division III Region 6 All-Region Team. The trio led the Spartans to the 2022 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship and return to the NCAA Division III Championship. All three earned NACC All-Conference honors with Vercautren capturing medalist honors at the NACC Men's Golf Championship and Duncan finishing one stroke off the lead as runner-up and NACC Freshman of the Year.
