Sen. Dan McConchie (R-Lake Zurich) spoke at a press conference April 7 to push measures Republicans have introduced to bring permanent tax cuts amid rising inflation.
“As Sen. (Chapin) Rose (R-Decatur) said, what we want to do – what we’ve wanted to do from the very beginning – is to do permanent tax relief for people," McConchie said. "Right now, we’re seeing record high inflation, certainly over the past few years. Families are hurting. What we need to do is have this on an ongoing basis. Not as some of the proposals are, which are having checks arrive right before the election, and then tax reductions expire after the election.”
Senate Bill 4164, filed by Sen. Don DeWitte (R-West Dundee), would cut sales tax permanently on food, medical devices, and prescription drugs. It was introduced on Feb. 9 and referred to the Senate Assignments Committee.
Senate Bill 4163 increases the credit for residential real property taxes from 5% to 10%. It was introduced by Rose on Feb. 9 and referred to the Senate Assignments Committee.
Senate Bill 4161 would make the senior income tax exemptions permanent, increasing the exemptions that seniors receive on their income taxes from $1,000 to $2,000 per year. It was introduced by Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) on Feb. 9 and referred to the Senate Assignments Committee.
