Aux Sable Middle School issued the following announcement on Apr. 5.
District 202 is adding snacks and dinner to its free weekly breakfast and lunch pick up service starting April 7, 2021 and running through June 30, 2021.
The district and its food service provider Aramark distribute grab and go meals every Wednesday to any child 18 and younger. The federal Children and Adult Care Center Food Program or CACFP pays for the free meals.
Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner will be distributed at the district’s four high schools:
- Plainfield High School-Central Campus
- Plainfield East High School
- Plainfield North High School
- Plainfield South High School
- Drauden Point Middle School
- Timber Ridge Middle School
- Grand Prairie Elementary School
- Lakewood Falls Elementary School
Aramark and District 202 began serving weekly meals in mid-March 2020 after schools closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All children to age 18 are eligible for the program. Families do not have to have children enrolled in District 202 to get the free food.
As of March 31, 2021, the district has served 1,727,490 meals.
“We are thrilled to be able expand our meal offerings to children in the District 202 community to now include dinner and snacks,” said Tony Arbogast, Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations.
“Many families are still recovering from the financial impact of COVID-19 and this addition will provide many students and families peace of mind and security.”
