Rep. Dan Ugaste (R-St. Charles) is one of the voices calling for Illinois students to return to in-person learning on a five-day schedule.
“It’s been one year since many students attended their last full week of in-person classes,” Ugaste to Facebook on March 16. “Last weekend, I attended a rally with my daughter, Tonia, who has been spearheading the drive to get kids back to school five days a week. I couldn’t be more proud. Let’s get our students back in school.”
Chanting “five-days a week,” hundreds of protestors turned out at the rally in Naperville, Ugaste said. Parents from such districts as Naperville District 203, Indian Prairie District 204, Plainfield District 202, Geneva District 304, St. Charles District 303, Oswego District 308, Kaneland District 302, Hinsdale Township High School District 86 and Community High School District 99 were among the groups that organized the demonstration.
Among those speaking was state Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia), who recently launched his challenge to Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
“Our kids need to be in school,” Bailey told the crowd, adding he views anything short of that as being unacceptable.
