South Elgin-Countryside FPD responds to 36 fires in 2018

South Elgin-Countryside Fire Protection District responded to 532 calls in 2018 - 22.3 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in South Elgin-Countryside included 36 fires - 10 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 21 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $372,250 in fire loss - or about $10,340 per fire.

The department also received 492 false calls, including five malicious calls and 487 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.
