City of Elgin issued the following announcement on June 19.
When you register, the Elgin Police Department can send you emergency alerts, and you can choose how and when you receive them.
Subscribers may also make available key family and residential information to the private and secure Rave Alert/Smart911 database. Once entered, the data may ONLY be used for emergency responses and is ONLY made available to the 9-1-1 system in the event of an emergency. Options include sharing names, physical descriptions and photos of household members to aid responders during an emergency. Users can also list medical information, vehicles, emergency contacts and property details. As mobile phones do not provide an address for the caller when 9-1-1 is dialed, this may assist in rendering a response quicker should a caller be unable to provide an address. Not only is this information available to the Elgin 9-1-1 operator, but it is available to any Rave Alert/Smart911 subscribing 9-1-1 center across the country.
