Billy Bricks Wood Fired Pizza restaurants have delivered more than 1,000 meals to first responders who are on the front lines battling the COVID-19 pandemic. according to local reports.
However, the Elgin location has been leading the charge, the Daily Herald reported in early May.
The "Feed the Front Lines: Bag Lunch" program consists of donating $10 for a lunch that will then be delivered to a local first responder. the Daily Herald reporter. The restaurants then match the $10 with another lunch and deliver the meals to hospitals, fire departments and police stations.
Bob Webster, who is the co-owner of the Elgin location, said that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a decline in their business, the Daily Herald reported. He said that the restaurant in Elgin has seen a 65% decrease and that they had to furlough 10 employees, which left the shop with four workers.
"Liquor sales have completely diminished to zero. The carryout itself has been supportive, but it's just not like being open," Webster told the Daily Herald.
He made an oath to donate to the cause as long as he can still afford to. "As long as the will of God is giving us blessings, and I can still eat and everybody that works for me that's left can still eat, I will donate what I can," Webster told the Daily Herald.
