City of Geneva Natural Resources Committee met Nov. 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm by Jay Womack.

2. Geneva NRC Members Present: Jay Womack, Bill Doeckel, John Frankenthal, Carrie Carter, Kelvin Limbrick, Steve Matravers, Brendan Cassin (SPAC liaison). Absent: Tom Dickinson, Stephanie O’hara, Adam McMillen, Jeanine McMillen, Dan Ludwig.

Also present Mel Rooney (Geneva Resident), Eileen.

3. Amendments to the Agenda. None.

4. Approval of October Minutes. John Frankenthal moved and Bill Doeckel seconded to approve the October minutes. The October minutes were approved.

5. Active Projects:

• Earth Day Event will be held on April 25, 2020

i. This year will be the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. A few ideas for the day include:

a. A parade along the bike path that would include floats made from recycled materials. Trish will contact schools in October. NRC will need a float.

b. A kite flying demonstration

c. Collect paper from downtown merchants the morning of the event.

• Eastside Fire Station Natural Landscaping Project

i. Dan Ludwig has a proposal to purchase plants for the basin, both proposals are in the amount of $435.10.

Plants will be purchased from two suppliers in the spring of 2020.

ii. The fire department plans to burn the basin this fall and asked that the plants be installed in the spring of 2020.

• River Clean-up Day

i. The river clean-up was a huge success. There were close to forty people. Lots of weird objects were collected.

• Rain Barrels for sale – barrels are $75.00 each.

• Greening Geneva

i. The final six trees requested by the NRC have been planted by Wasco.

ii. By the end of 2019, GPD will have planted 170 trees in their parks.

iii. Total number of trees planted in 2019 is 204.

iv. Over 600 trees have been planted since the first Wine, Cheese and Trees event.

• Wine, Cheese and Trees.

i. The next event will be held on February 29, 2020. SPRC has been reserved.

ii. Need to contact sponsors before the end of the year.

iii. Next meeting will be held on November 20th at Tom’s office.

iv. Register as GPD under their 501c3 number.

v. Everyone needs to donate at least one bottle of red wine worth more than $20.00

vi. Raffle items have purchased – battery pack for charging phones, Echo Dot, Ring Nest.

6. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm so the NRC could honor Jay for being chosen as the 2019 Illinois Outstanding Citizen Volunteer. Well done Jay!
