Illinois state Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-Crystal Lake) considers his role as host of a Support President Trump rally scheduled for Saturday morning in Algonquin as a personal obligation to his constituents in the 66th District.
“People are so excited about the roaring economy and they want to express it,” Skillicorn told the Kane County Reporter. “The more the Washington D.C. swamp attacks the President, the more his base has his back.”
Supporters were slated to start convening for the two-hour event at the corner of Randall Road and Old County Line Road at 10 a.m. with voters being encouraged to “bring your signs, flags and patriotic gear.” Such a display comes naturally to Skillicorn, now in his third-year in Springfield and up for reelection in 2021.

“I’m proud to stand with the people and show our patriotism,” he said.
At one point, Skillicorn flirted with the prospect of a 14th District Congressional run against incumbent U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville), insisting that Underwood's anti-Trump policies were not truly reflective of the people of the community.
“I am serious about helping President Trump drain the swamp and empower the American people,” Skillicorn said in a letter he sent to Republican Party leaders at the time. “If I am fortunate enough to serve as your congressman, I will be a tireless party-builder to peel back the corrupt, corrosive influence of Nancy Pelosi and the new batch of Democratic socialists that threaten our jobs, communities, families and freedom while benefiting special interests.”
Saturday's rally was organized in the wake of the Democratically controlled U.S. House of Representatives recently moving to formally impeach Trump on articles of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
Among the leading GOP challengers to Underwood in the 14th District are state Sens. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) and Sue Rezin (R-Morris).
