CITY OF AURORA: Aurora Heritage Boards Provide Scholarship Opportunities For Aurora Students

Scholarship

City of Aurora issued the following announcement on Dec. 8.

Aurora’s heritage boards have provided more than $100,000 in scholarships to college-bound students over the years and are working diligently to build upon that legacy through their 2020 scholarship programs.

Scholarships for the Aurora African-American Heritage Advisory Board (AAHAB) and the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board (AHHAB) are available and applications are open for eligible students.

Applicants for the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board Scholarship must complete the scholarship online through the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley (CFFRV) Scholarship Program by visiting www.cffrv.org/scholarship-program. Community members who complete the application will be considered for the AAHAB scholarship or any of the many other scholarships available through the CFFRV Scholarship Program. Application deadline is January 15, 2020. Scholarships will be provided at the AHHAB Community Breakfast in June 2020.

The Aurora African-American Heritage Advisory Board’s Henry Cowherd Scholarship is available at www.aahab.org. Named in honor of Mr. Henry Cowherd - the namesake of Cowherd Middle School and the first African-American elected to the East Aurora Board of Education – AAHAB’s scholarship is open to students who attend Aurora high schools. Application deadline is December 20, 2019. Scholarships will be presented at the AAHAB annual Heritage Dinner in February 2020.

In addition, both heritage boards have open seats for community members interested in serving. Learn more and complete an application at https://www.aurora-il.org/230/Boards-Commissions
