City of Geneva Natural Resources Committee met Aug. 7.

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

5. Active Projects:

• Earth Day Event 2020

i. Jay, Stephanie, Kelvin and Trish met to start coord for next year, which is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. A few ideas that were discussed include:

a. a parade along the bike path that would include floats made of recycled materials. Trish will contact schools in October. NRC will need a float.

b. A kite flying demonstration

c. Collect paper from downtown merchants that morning.

d. Have cute puppies, small animals, and/or birds of prey at the event.

• Eastside Fire Station Natural Landscaping Project

i. Dan Ludwig has a proposal to purchase plants for the basin, both proposals are in the amount of 435.10.

ii. The fire department plans to burn the basin this Fall and asked that the plants be installed Spring 2020.

• River Clean-up Day

i. The event will be held on September 22, 2019.

ii. Kelvin to purchase additional magnets and accessories.

iii. Secure canoes to help move materials.

iv. Contact the forest preserve to coord trash drop off at dumpster.

v. Purchase snacks and water.

• Rain Barrels for sale

i. Barrels are $75 each.

• Greening Geneva Initiative

i. Wasco Nursery planted 23 trees in the downtown area. City placed gator bags on the trees and will keep them full.

• Wine, Cheese, and Trees.

i. The next WCT event will be February 29th – Leap Year!

• TreeHab USA

i. Next presentation TBD.

• Fabyan Preserve Stewardship

i. Work days are finished for the 2018 – 2019 season. Work days will resume in October for the 2019 – 2020 season.

i. Waiting to hear back from City re:revisions from NRC.

6. New Initiatives

• Chicago Climate Charter support for City of Geneva
