City of Geneva Natural Resources Committee met May 1.

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

5. Active Projects:

• Earth Day Event 2019 - Recap

i. Planted 4 trees with FONA and GPDF at Sandholm Park. The trees looked great. Invoice was forwarded to City for payment.

ii. Jay and Trish are meeting to start coord for next year, which is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

iii. Deposited $450 from Earth Day with City.

• Eastside Fire Station Natural Landscaping Project

i. Dan Ludwig will continue to work on area. Landscape is starting to wake up.

• River Clean-up Day

i. Look forward to fourth Sunday of September, 2019.

• Rain Barrels for sale

i. Barrels are $75 each.

ii. Purchased 12 barrels, sold 5 during earth day

• Greening Geneva Initiative

i. Meeting with P.W., NRC, and GPDF to review locations for trees went very well. NRC will look to plant 30 trees in the SSA 1 area of downtown.

ii. GPDF will look to plant 50 trees in various parks. The trees will be purchased and planted by GPDF.

iii. All parties liked the idea of a lottery for the 50/50 program, all parties will continue to discuss the idea.

iv. It was agreed that some level of education needs to be part of the 50/50 program – how and why to care for parkway trees.

• Wine, Cheese, and Trees.

i. NRC received a check from GPDF for NRC’s share of WCT funds.

ii. The next WCT event will be February 29th – Leap Year!

• TreeHab USA

i. Next presentation TBD.

• Fabyan Preserve Stewardship

i. Work days for May are the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th. We will pull garlic mustard for all of these work days.

i. Waiting to hear back from City re:revisions from NRC.

6. New Initiatives

• Chicago Climate Charter support for City of Geneva

• Mill Creek Watershed Planning Group – the NRC was contacted by Holly Hudson of CMAP, she would like to make a presentation to the NRC regarding Mill Creek Watershed Planning efforts. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 22 or 23. Location of presentation TBD.
