CITY OF ST. CHARLES: Driving Altercation Leads to Driver Being Charged

City of St. Charles issued the following announcement on Dec. 20.

A Geneva man was charged with Aggravated Assault - use of a deadly weapon, and six (6) felony drug charges on Tuesday 12/18/18 following a driving altercation.

Arrested was, Robert J. Brouillette, 23 years of age, of the 600 block of Illinois St. in Geneva, IL.

On 12/18/18 at 2:11 PM, officers from the St. Charles Police Department were dispatched to the report of a driving altercation in the parking lot for Meijer, 855 S. Randall Rd. Callers reported that one person involved had a handgun and that a physical altercation was taking place.

Officers arrived and found one male subject on top of Brouillette attempting to keep him on the ground. The subject told officers as they arrived that Brouillette had a gun. Officers took control of Brouillette and did recover a 9mm handgun.

Through a subsequent investigation officers learned that the two individuals encountered one another while driving through the parking lot. Brouillette reportedly turned in front of and cut off the other driver. The other driver then followed Brouillette’s vehicle and stopped his vehicle near where Brouillette had parked. Brouillette then allegedly approached the other vehicle and pointed a gun at the other driver. A physical altercation then ensued, resulting in the other driver holding Brouillette on the ground until police arrived.

Brouillette was found to have a valid Illinois Firearm Owners ID Card but did not have a Concealed Carry License. A subsequent search of Brouillette’s vehicle revealed a second magazine for the handgun, six (6) knives and several items in various forms which tested positive for the presence of controlled substances.

Brouillette was taken in to custody and was initially transported to Delnor hospital with minor injuries from the physical altercation. He was then taken to the St. Charles Police Department and charged with the following offenses:

1 Count, Possession of Methamphetamine Precursor (Class X Felony)

1 Count, Manufacture/Deliver Controlled Substance (Class 3 Felony)

3 Counts, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony)

1 Count, Aggravated Assault – Use Deadly Weapon (Class A Misdemeanor)

Brouillette was brought to the Kane County Jail for a bond hearing on 12/19/18. His bail was set at $100,000.
