City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Dec. 14.
As part of the Elgin Fire Department's community outreach program, the fire department has offered their assistance to the Elgin Community Crisis Center. Their focus is on gearing up for cold weather by way of a Winter Wear Drive. On behalf of the Community Crisis Center, the Elgin Fire Department is collecting new and lightly used winter coats, gloves, mittens, hats, boots, snow pants and scarves for men, women, and children. This year, they are in particular need of heavy men’s coats. Donations will be accepted through December 31 at all seven of Elgin’s fire stations. Addresses and contact information for each fire station can be found at cityofelgin.org/firestations.
The Community Crisis Center is an important organization that provides safe shelter to numerous women and children each year who are homeless due to domestic violence, sexual assault, or financial crisis - often fleeing their homes with only the clothes on their backs. The Fire Department is asking the community to help spread the word and donate items they might not need anymore, with thanks in advance.
