City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Dec. 6.
Mayor Kaptain gave his annual State of the City Address this morning at Elgin Community College, hosted by the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce. The resounding message was that “Elgin is back!”
Elgin has truly become a city of choice- attracting new residents and businesses, with a 46-year low crime rate, and the lowest vacancy rate and unemployment rate we’ve seen in years. Elgin is financially stable with diversified revenue streams and it continues to maintain a flat property tax levy and an AAA bond rating.
Looking forward, Elgin will have some challenges to overcome but there will be abundant opportunities for development, education and jobs...
