City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Oct. 18.
It's Waste Wednesday! Cardboard can be recycled. So, pizza boxes, being cardboard, are recyclable. BUT, if soiled with grease, cheese or other food, the box is contaminated, and no longer recyclable. If tainted portion is removed and placed in regular trash, often the top half of the box can still be recycled. When in doubt, throw it out.
