4. Recycling/Solid Waste (J. Jarland)

A. The Role Kane County Can Play in Encouraging Municipal Food Scrap Composting Referencing a presentation included in the agenda packet, Gary Cuneen, Director of Seven Generations Ahead, provided background on the Illinois Food Scrap Coalition. He discussed the benefits of composting along with food scrap challenges and solutions. Cuneen reviewed a report on the economic opportunities and strategies for developing a composting industry in Illinois.

Jarland provided an overview of the Mill Creek composting program, noting Kane County has three communities that offer food scrap composting. She promoted the upcoming pumpkin composting event in November. Considerable discussion occurred.

5. Sustainability (J. Mino)

A. Public Roads Deicing Workshop

Staff Jarland promoted the deicing workshop on October 17 at the Barbara Belding Lodge Brewster Creek Forest Preserve in St. Charles. Details can be found on the County’s Sustainability website.

7. Public Comment

Hernandez promoted the Community Conversation event on September 20 at the Old Main Library in Aurora.

Jarland promoted a recycling discussion on October 10 in the Kane County Government Center Auditorium.
