Kane County Legislative Committee met August 22. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order


      Co-Chair Starrett called the meeting to order at 10:28 am.

2. Approval of Minutes: July 18, 2018

4. Old Business

A. Legislative Update

      Co-Chair Starrett provided an update on the 2018 grants, including KDOT, OEM, Heath Department, and the Development Department/Farmland Protection. She discussed emails that were sent to State Representatives and their responses. Last month the committee sent a letter to all county Department Heads requesting information of any unfunded mandates they have received. Starrett read the letters and shared the impact of the various bills including HB4556, HB4584, SB0426, SB2313, HB4101, HB4594, HB4748, SB2638, SB0426, and HB4584. She also provided an update on previously discussed bills including SB0426, SB0486, SB2313, SB2591, SB2638, HB4101, SB3503, HB3479, HB4242, HB4584, HB4594, HB4748, SB1597, HB4556, HB4581, HB5244, SB2486, HB4573, HB4321, SB2581, and SB1451.

      Co-Chair Hernandez noted the Excel sheet has been updated. Everything is linked to the ILGA.gov or the Federal website.

5. New Business

      Co-Chair Starrett promoted upcoming NACo and UCCI events. Creating Healthy Smiles: Medicaid and County Approaches to Improving Oral Health August 30, County-State Collaboration in Criminal Justice Planning Sept 27, and Stepping Up Four Key Measures #3 on October 25.

6. Executive Session (If needed)

      None

      There was a consensus among the committee to move forward with sending the letters that were previously sent to the Department Heads, to State and Federal Representatives.
