City of Aurora Youth Council met May 9. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the council:

Members Present: Adam Pauley, Diego Terrazas, Jyotsna Balmuri, Alexa Jordan, Amanda DuVall, Amogh


Raula, Juliana Salinas, Adolf Gerodias, and Alonso Cisneros

City of Aurora staff present: Adrienne Holloway

1. Welcome & Introduction

Alexa Jordan welcomed everyone.

2. Acceptance of Agenda

Adam motioned to approve the agenda and Alonso seconded. The motion was unanimously approved

by voice vote.

3. Approval of Minutes

Amogh motioned to approve the minutes as amended. Diego seconded. The motion was unanimously

approved by voice vote.

4. Speakers

We had Erik Franzen, teacher at the local West Aurora School District. He came as a representative of

Indivisible Aurora. It is a non-profit organization that is organizing the upcoming pride parade. He wishes

to create connections with student leaders in our community. He also wants to help amplify the voices

of student leaders in the community.

5. Project Ideas

Amogh suggested that we have an Aurora Youth Day having food trucks, contests, and bands. We can

have it at Phillips Park. We asked if we should have this festival. The council unanimously agreed. Amogh

was appointed as chair of the committee. Jo, Alexa, Amanda, Juliana, Adam, Diego, and Adolf expressed

an interest to be members of the Youth Day committee. Alexa asked for a motion to create a committee

for the Aurora Youth Day. Diego motioned for the committee and Adam seconded. The motion was

unanimously approved by voice vote. We can plan for the event to occur on August 10th.

Jo also recommended that we volunteer at first fridays for the month. We can have this become a

monthly volunteer opportunity where we can send Aurora Youth Council representatives to help out at

the event.

6. Committee Report

The Earth Day event occurred smoothly. We had a great turnout with many people coming out to enjoy

the activities planned by us. We had a good amount of media coverage with many city officials coming

out to our event as well. We also had an Aurora Youth Forum that occurred as planned. Due to its’

success we are planning to make it an annual event. We had many state and federal officials come out

and answer questions submitted by local students from across the city. We had a good amount of media

attention. We also had speeches from Mayor Irvin, Congressman Bill Foster, and State Representative

Chapa LaVia among the numerous guests that came and attended our forum.

7. Announcements

Alonso, Jo, and Ella all volunteered at the recent Food Truck Festival. It was a great experience and

showcased the City of Aurora.

8. Adjourn

Diego motioned to adjourn, Alonso seconded.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:08 p.m.
